How Universal Basic Income Could Save Domestic Abuse Survivors

Universal Basic Income and Healthcare is an ongoing debate that is gaining traction in the U.S.

As many Americans struggle to feed their families and mental illness on the rise, domestic violence situations are becoming more common. One of the biggest hurdles survivors face when leaving a situation is lack of support and financial assistance.

As noted by the author of “Women Who Love Psychopaths,” systems that were supposed to support and help these casualties have failed.

Keep reading for 3 ways that Universal Basic Income can benefit not only survivors, but everyone else as well…

#1: Grants Everyone Financial Stability

Financial stability is something that every single person on this planet should have, but many do not—by no fault of their own.

As the cost of living continues to rise and wages fail to meet it, more and more Americans are finding themselves out on the streets or living in uninhabitable houses to survive.

With Universal Basic Income, we could eradicate all the other government assistance programs (Medicaid/medicare, food stamps, disability, etc) and reallocate those resources to pay UBI.

Pay everyone enough to cover the basic necessities (shelter, food, water, travel, self-care, etc). Any income they make outside of that allotment is taxable at a 15% rate.

Not only that, but business owners wouldn’t have to track expenses anymore—no more receipts!!

Everyone gets taxed the same, which is fair, because the more money you make, the more you pay.

#2: Puts People Out of Work

Now, I know this sounds like a negative and not a benefit, but hear me out.

Marijuana has proven benefits for veterans and other trauma survivors suffering from PTSD.

Legalize it and put those people to work filling the jobs we will create doing that.

#3: More Affordable

The new system would be lean and not have nowhere near as much overhead, which should more than pay for itself.
